On-Screen Text Rules (Periods, Capitalization)

Defines text formatting standards for on-screen content, including period usage, title capitalization rules, and client-specific preferences.

Period Usage

  • General rule: Avoid periods in on-screen text unless:
    • The text is a multi-sentence paragraph
  • Exception:
    • On-screen instructions (e.g., “Click each tile.”, “Select a category.”) always end with a period

Title Capitalization

  • Rule:
    • Capitalize only the first word and proper nouns
    • Example:
      • Correct: “Understanding cognitive biases”
      • Incorrect: “Understanding Cognitive Biases”

Grant Thornton Capitalization Preferences

  • Uncapitalized terms:
    • entity
    • environment
    • sustainability
    • assurance
    • engagement
  • QA responsibility: Flag inconsistencies even if developers/storyboarders typically handle them

Validation Checklist

  • Periods omitted in standalone text elements (non-paragraphs/non-instructions)
  • Titles follow first-word-only capitalization
  • Grant Thornton terms appear in lowercase where required
  • On-screen instructions include closing periods
🛑Critical Note: Client-specific preferences (e.g., Grant Thornton’s lowercase terms) override general style rules.
