On-Screen Text Rules (Periods, Capitalization)
Defines text formatting standards for on-screen content, including period usage, title capitalization rules, and client-specific preferences.
Period Usage
- General rule: Avoid periods in on-screen text unless:
- The text is a multi-sentence paragraph
- Exception:
- On-screen instructions (e.g., “Click each tile.”, “Select a category.”) always end with a period
Title Capitalization
- Rule:
- Capitalize only the first word and proper nouns
- Example:
- Correct: “Understanding cognitive biases”
- Incorrect: “Understanding Cognitive Biases”
Grant Thornton Capitalization Preferences
- Uncapitalized terms:
- entity
- environment
- sustainability
- assurance
- engagement
- QA responsibility: Flag inconsistencies even if developers/storyboarders typically handle them
Validation Checklist
- Periods omitted in standalone text elements (non-paragraphs/non-instructions)
- Titles follow first-word-only capitalization
- Grant Thornton terms appear in lowercase where required
- On-screen instructions include closing periods
🛑Critical Note: Client-specific preferences (e.g., Grant Thornton’s lowercase terms) override general style rules.
