Program PDF (Slides & Script) Creation & Formatting

A PDF containing the slides and script (notes view) is created for learners to access. This is typically done using Storyline's Word export feature and then formatting the Word document.

When to Create PDF

  • The PDF of slides and script is created after the beta review, not after alpha review, for complex courses, to incorporate potential changes

Export settings from Storyline

  • Medium slide size (2.28 width), include notes and layers

Word formatting

  • Set paper size to A4
  • Set margins to Narrow (0.5" all around)
  • Delete all final assessment slides except the introduction slide
  • Remove the entire HELP scene from the document
  • Format the Program Name as Arial 18pt, Color: #4F2D7F
  • Format all other text as Arial 10pt (using Select All)
  • Format Slide Titles (e.g., 1.1, 1.2) using Heading 2 style. Modify Heading 2 to Arial 10pt, Bold, Color: #4F2D7F
  • Ensure all slides have titles; add titles where missing and contact the developer if needed
  • Remove redundant Scene Names if they match the upcoming slide name (e.g., Scene 1 matching 1.1)
  • For layers, remove the layer title text but keep "(Layer)". Set this text color to #4F2D7F
  • Remove feedback layers from the document (delete thumbnail)
  • Add footnotes for answers in Knowledge Checks/Activities. Use the References tab > Insert Footnote. Type the answer, format as Arial 10pt, Color: #7F7F7F, italicized
  • Insert page breaks if a slide title is separated from its thumbnail
  • Handle graphic overlays by using replacement images from the program to ensure content is not obscured. Contact developer for assistance if needed
  • Handle "misspelled" underlines in screenshots by adding the word to the dictionary or previewing before screenshotting

Additional Content to Add

  • Add a "Glossary" section (Use Heading 2 for title) and insert the glossary from the program, formatted as a table
  • Add a "Links and additional resources" section (Use Heading 2 for title)
  • Add a section titled "PDFs attached to the RESOURCES tab" (Use regular text, Color: #4F2D7F). List all PDFs included in the Storyline Resources tab in black text. List this program PDF first as "Slides and script: [Name of program]"
  • Add a "Links attached to the RESOURCES tab" section (Use regular text, Color: #4F2D7F). Ensure links work and are formatted with Color #0000FF

Final Steps

  • QA the Word document; have another person review the output
  • Convert the QA'd Word document to PDF
  • Save both the final Word (.docx) and PDF versions in the program's Resources folder in Dropbox. (Note: One source mentions a SharePoint resources folder for final handover, but the PDF instruction doc specifies Dropbox for this step)
